A/C service protects from risks
Stop the smell, avoid allergies
It’s a blessing to have an air conditioner on board when travelling to your summer holiday destination. And what’s more, it is a well proven contribution to road safety. Because, the pleasant temperatures inside the car improve the driver’s concentration. Both plus factors will be at stake, however, when a musty smell is creeping up from the air vents into the passenger compartment.
The first symptom resulting from such a smell attack most often is a dry tickle in your throat causing an irritated cough. Watery eyes or frequent sneezing are other indicators of the presence of unpleasant, pathogenic guests: bacteria, fungi, viruses, germs and other microorganisms spreading in the air conditioning system. Dr. Andreas Winkens, a recognised German pollutant analyst and managing director of the Mönchengladbach based Association for Environmental and Interior Analytics (GUI), confirms: “If I do not clean the air conditioner regularly, the air conditioner is going to make me sick, it’s as simple as that.” The reason for this is the natural interaction of warm ambient air, moisture build-up on the system and dark surroundings – the ideal breeding ground for all those microorganisms known to cause allergies and respiratory diseases.
The first remedy against a contaminated car air conditioner is to replace the pollen filter once a year, advises Dr. Winkens. However, this won’t solve the whole problem. “Another trouble spot is the evaporator“, explains the environmental engineer, referring to the part of the vehicle air conditioning system that is responsible for cooling. Condensate water inevitably building up on the evaporator surface combined with dust from the road creates the breeding ground for unwanted microorganisms. “These include germs of high allergological relevance as well as pathogenic germs that will affect everybody, not only people suffering from allergies.”
The only thing that helps in such a case is a professional clean-up of all air conditioner surfaces to be performed by a specialist workshop. The WAECO AirCon Service specialists, for example, have developed an effective cleaning substance that, unlike many other products available in the market, contains no scents and is therefore safe for people suffering from allergies. The substance tackles the smell problem at the roots rather than just covering up. The effectiveness of WAECO’s air conditioner cleaner has been tested and fully approved by Hygiene-Institut des Ruhrgebiets, Gelsenkirchen according to European standard EN 1040 (“Chemical disinfectants and antiseptics – basic bactericidal activity”). Expert Dr. Winkens recommends to have the evaporator of the air conditioning system cleaned once a year in a specialised A/C workshop.
The cleaning substance used by WAECO’s partner workshops is absolutely safe for humans and animals, contains no scents and causes no allergies. It poses no health risks whatsoever, so people can travel to their holiday destination in perfect peace of mind. |
